The master’s program in speech pathology and audiology will advance your knowledge and specialization in the study of communicative disorders.

The Master of Science (M.S.) education program in speech-language pathology {residential} at the �鶹ҹ�� is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700.This accreditation is valid through April 30, 2028.

After successfully completing the program, one will have met the academic and clinical requirements for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). The Clinic, well-known for its successful summer literacy project, recently received recognition from the Louisiana Scottish Rite Foundation, Inc., in the form of clinic funding, annual scholarships, and National Foundation Grants focused on the continued success of our literacy project and implementation of ASL services. Innovative Graduate Research

Gain experience in conducting clinical research on language, literacy, speech, aphasia, cognitive communication, and stuttering. Faculty and graduate students collaborate to design evidence-based assessment and intervention practices at the cutting edge of innovation.

Clinical Experience

Our Speech, Language, and Hearing Center provides more than 10,000 hours annually of speech, language, and hearing services to a wide variety of clients with communication challenges and differences. You’ll gain clinical experience while helping local individuals and families in our community.

Professional Preparation

The Master’s Program in Speech Language Pathology at �鶹ҹ�� is fully accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. You will accomplish the breadth and depth of knowledge and experience required for national certification and state licensure through our state of the art coursework and our various on-campus and off-campus clinical settings. Have the specified number of clinical hours in a variety of clinical settings, and the coursework covers the depth and breadth of knowledge required for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).

Student Organizations

Get valuable volunteer and professional experience in our student organizations. We have student chapters for the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA), Students for the Autism Society, Sign Language Club, and Sertoma Club — all of which volunteer in the community and help students prepare for careers in the helping professions or graduate school.

Deadline to apply every year is January 10. Students are only admitted for the summer semester. When you apply, be sure to select Summer (not Fall or Spring) as the anticipated semester of admission.

Tyler Choate is doing what he loves as a speech language pathologist in Chicago.

“There are so many reasons why I am in love with what I do,” Tyler said. “One piece is related to the power of storytelling and the unique role speech language pathologists can play in mobilizing it to solve problems and support healing.

“Speech language pathologists understand how stories can create shared meaning and, on a broader level, carve out spaces for our shared humanity. I like to think about these as healing spaces that can support all people.”

Tyler is the director of speech and language services at LEEP Forward, Inc., a community-based developmental therapy center in Chicago. In his role, he works in clinical, administrative, and consulting capacities.

Program Requirements

In addition to satisfying the Graduate School application and admission requirements, you must also submit:

• Official GRE scores
• Personal Statement

Note: Letters of recommendation are waived for graduates of the �鶹ҹ�� Department of Communicative Disorders who meet the other requirements for admission

The Master of Science Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology requires 43 graduate credit hours.

Students must complete a minimum of 325 clock hours of clinical practicum at the graduate level. All students must pass the Capstone Seminar (CODI 595) which is the Comprehensive Examination process for this Master’s degree program.
