Homecoming Week 2017 activities will begin with food and a student scavenger hunt.
The fun kicks off with a Sunday Brunch at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Jefferson Street Pub.
Breakfast and lunch fare on the pubās menu will be sold to anyone who stops by. Breakfast options include eggs Bennie, Creole omelets, Southern raspberry pancakes and pulled pork biscuits. Lunch choices include shrimp and grits, burgers, and Cuban sandwiches.
The pub will be festooned with vermilion and white dƩcor. Attendees are encouraged to wear University colors and gear.
āIt will be a fun way for Raginā Cajuns fans to get into the Homecoming spirit and connect with other fans,ā said Emily Girlinghouse, event chair.
More cuisine will be served on Monday during the AllonsManger Food Truck Roundup. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alumni Center, 600 E. St. Mary Blvd. Vendors will sell a variety of dishes including barbecue, sandwiches, sushi and desserts. Seven food trucks will participate.
Vendors will be Blanchardās BBQ, The Bus Stop, Cacklin Hens, Cāest Bon Manger, KOK Wings and Things, Mad Luannās and Rice Kings. A mobile boutique, Shop Three Little Birds Boutique, will sell clothes, shoes, accessories and jewelry. The University Program Council will host a cupcake giveaway.
āItās open to students, faculty and staff members, and turnout seems to increase each year,ā said Amanda Gary, event chair. The roundup began in 2014.
A Campus Scavenger Hunt will be held later that day, at 7 p.m. Students will meet at the Bayou Bijou theater, then spread out across campus to track down places that will remain secret until the first-time event begins, said Karli Sherman, assistant director of the University Program Councilās Office of Student Engagement and Leadership.
āWeāre going to send them all over campus, to easy-to-find locations, like Martin Hall, or the Student Union,ā she explained.
While each spot shouldnāt be too difficult to find, thereās a catch: āParticipants will have to locate something specific at each location that might not be easily discovered, and perform specific tasks at certain locations. It could be writing a spirited phrase on the sidewalk with chalk, for instance, or taking a video while singing the fight song.ā
Once requirements at each stop are met, volunteers stationed at each location will hand out stickers. The stickers can only be placed onto one piece of paper in the presence of a volunteer, to prevent teams from sending different people to different spots at once.
The team or person who completes the hunt first will return to Bayou Bijou, and be declared winner of the contest. The reward for finishing first will be Raginā Cajuns gear.
No registration is required for the scavenger hunt. Participants must show their University ID.
